Summer Lawn Care 5 great things to do..

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

summerNow is the best time to think of great things to do to get your lawn ready for the coming season of summer. We only want what’s best for our lawns so as early as now, we should get a list of important things to prepare to lift up the look of our lawns. Here are 5 great things to do:

1. Raking and Thatch Removal – The first job to do while in the season of spring. Since Raking is not just all about eliminating the leaves and mess from your yard but also it helps remove thatch. That is why raking is considered one of the most important thing to do for your summer lawn growth.

Making a deep and thorough raking especially when a thatch is already at its half inch. Thatch could also help in holding some excess moisture from your lawn provided it should not reach half an inch as it could also hold excess moisture that would leave mold to your lawn prey. Also, spring season is the best time to have deep raking of your lawn to help it recover from a winter break.

2. Aeration – For the soil to be aerated it is always essential to remove on your lawn all the thick layers of thatch, unless it has been on a high traffic place for a long period of time where thatching could be inadequate already. Lawns on high traffic could slope down caused by soil compaction that is where the soil is already out of air for this, it could make a poor root bed for new grass you want to plant. As a tip, using your spiked shoes, you can walk over your lawn in this way it could create holes in the soil for aeration but this won’t work for excessively compacted soil you’ll need a machine for deep aeration for a healthy Summer Lawn.

3. Overseeding - This method is for the patches you can see on your lawn such as dog spots. This is usually a common problem among homes that has pets. This is where overseeding comes in that includes planting seeds over those patches with the release of a nitrogen fertilizer to promote growth for your lawn. This is usually done on fall for best results but if it is really necessary to overseed, you can always do it earlier.

4. Weed Control – For lawns suffering from a yearly weed problem, You have to fertilize your lawn with pre-emergent herbicides to control weeds to hinder the seeds from germinating so the weeds could not emerge all through your lawn.

5. Spring Fertilization – for your lawn’s new growth, a slow discharge of fertilizer would be best to promote new growth and avoid rushing your grass to grow since its always best to see its growth gradually, most especially on spring weather. Have a retest of soil on a regular basis to ensure that you are using the right kind of fertilizer for the type of your soil. In applying fertilizer always check that you are applying the exact amount of it and those grasses in shaded area need a half that is normally from the sun.
