Tree and Bush Work involves ways on how to protect them to promote proper and healthy growth. One of the best ways is through Fertilizing and Pruning. It’s always a great pleasure and relaxing to walk around your yard especially during spring to breathe in fresh air and see trees and bushes around begin to flower.

Shrubs nor any other plants of any kind should not be pulled. One must know the proper way of taking off a certain plant. Dig around first and try to take it from its roots inorder not to disturb anything from them. And not to end up destroying its life on the ground. Then when putting them in their new place and water properly until they are used to its new environment. Pruning is considered one of the great reward you could give your plants in your lawn however, this is often being overlooked. It is because the risks is high. But most of us often do not foresee the benefits it can give, healthy growth, thicker foliage and more flowers. There are a lot of pruning techniques for the trees and bushes that we should be aware of :

Flowering Shrubs – For young shrubs,this should be pruned gently for a healthier growth. In hand pruner, unbranched and trim long the stems just cut off on the healthy bud portion. This is called heading type of pruning for a the lower part of branches to grow and boost up its natural form. And as shrubs develop, reduce the old or weak branches that join other branches for the sunlight to penetrate that would motivate more growth and produce more flowers.

Older and Overlooked Shrubs – Older shrubs do require a thorough works of thinning cuts known as renovation pruning for the stems to restore its good condition to be productive. This task will take at least 3 years. For shrubs with several stems develop from the base like viburnum, dogwood, lilac and forsythia, old stems must take be taken off and leave the newly produced flowers so they could take place the old stems and renew its life. For healthier growth. While those overlooked or neglected shrubs must undergo an extreme pruning as well as those deciduous shrubs and privet. Cut off the stems through using a loppers or pruning saw,an inch of the ground on days of winter latency.

Flowering Trees – Prevent pruning young or recently planted trees since it requires more leaves to have food to produce a healthy growth of roots. Only dead and damaged branches should be taken away also those excess branches. Make sure to cut back branches properly without making some stub marks on it for a healthy stem so pests won’t have places to hide and diseases could easily be prevented.


When a tree grows older, this should be shaped gently to produce more leaves and flowers. And branches should be in place up the trunk, in a spiral position. For better growth, trees should be prune in not more than ¼ of its total leaf area in a year, the lowest branch should be 1st cut off and spaces on its branches be maintained to avoid weak limb attachment. In addition, in removing the whole branch of the tree, start it close to its collar to avoid breakage in wind especially on winter season.
